Prohibition Agent No. 1
Stokes, New York
Very Good. 1st Edition. Burgundy boards with some wear to corners and edges. Binding still tight. "Dale Williams" written neatly across upper text block (somewhat faded). Frontispiece photo of Einstein with tissue guard. All plates present. Einstein and his partner Moe Smith were Federal Agents (with no previous law enforcement experience) who were assigned to the newly formed Prohibition Unit in 1919. They became celebrated folk heroes for their exploits in successfully shutting down illegal speakeasies and for using creative disguises in their work. The dedication pages states "to the 4,932 persons I arrested, hoping they bear me no grudge for having done my duty”.
